Analytical Figure Drawing Day 11

Did two additional constructions at the Plaster collection. That's the best one. The statue is called the Borghese Gladiator.
Pretty difficult to place perspective of the torso correctly. This will be the big challenge this week.
I did also a page of rib cage/pelvis cubes on the tram.

Analytical Figure Drawing Day 10

Second attempt at week 2 homework, with a page where I show the 4 steps (gestures, masses, landmarks, perspective). At this stage it make the problem more tractable I think.
Failed the legs completely but I think it's an improvement. On the drill front, tetromino, cylinders and wrapping drills:

Analytical Figure Drawing Day 9

First attempt at week 2 homework. Gestures + shapes + connections + landmarks + torso/arms/legs perspective. It doesn't look very good. Will need to do 25 of this before friday. This is going to be challenging. With this first attempt, I have at least a benchmark to measure progress.

Analytical Figure Drawing Day 8

I completed the 100 gestures. This session was done from characterdesigns.com . Here is the page I submitted. All from the last sessions.
A page of ribcage/pelvis boxes as drill

Analytical Figure Drawing Day 7

Did more gestures today than usual. 17 left to do to complete week 1 homework. Pentel  Brush Pen is definitely helping me using less line to do my gestures. This is an improvement. Still a lot of failed gestures but here are the one I am happy with:

What I feel I could improve is the gestures flow, the transition between line is a bit to abrupt. And I still unsure how to gesture the legs properly.

Analytical Figure Drawing Day 6

Did my 10 gestures using a pentel pocket brush and it made interesting line variation.
The initial lines have a lower value because the pocket brush was not fully loaded with ink.

Analytical Figure Drawing Day 5

Continuing week 1 homework with 10 gestures at the Plaster collection. I need 2-5 minutes per gesture, still a bit too slow. Will have to speed up if I want to reach 100 before saturday.
This actually a kid strangling a goose !

As for the drill, only one page of tetromino.

Analytical Figure Drawing Day 4

Still struggling with the gesture homework. I did this after watching the lecture video. Not very happy about today's gestures. Too many lines. I did 10 today from the Plaster Cast collection. Here is the best I could do
Two pages of drills. Tetromino rotation and sphere extrudition. ;)

Analytical Figure Drawing Day 3

Did 10 gestures from characterdesigns.com. More difficult to do than from the plaster cast collection. I kept messing the head/body proportions.
Did two pages of drills, one tetromino rotation page (very challenging for me) and one page of arcs.

Analytical Figure Drawing Day 2

Did 10 more gestures today. Done at the plaster cast collection. I still have 80 to go.
Here are 3 I liked.

Succulent Flowers

Quick page at the succulent plant. Wanted to do flowers.  Ceropegia flower had a most unusual shape. Didnt capture it well.
For the drill a shape on sphere page.

In the next weeks, I will attempt the analytical figure drawing from Michael Hampton at CGMA. Blog will be focused on this.

Figure construction

Half a session (45 min) life figure drawing today. I focused on the proportions and perspective, 5-7 minutes by sketch. This are my two best.

Voliere Gestures

Continued to work on bird gestures at the Voliere. One page with toucans and one page with black stilts. Bonus locomotive done during a meeting from imagination ;).

Waiting Room Oneliners

While waiting for my appointment had plenty of time to do one line doodle of the surroundings.  I ran out of subject so I tried to remember some sketch I did recently to finish the last page.

Jonquille

Did two very short thumbnails of a spring flower from the field in front of where I live. Didnt spend enough time on it but I am fascinated by their construction. Very geometrical and mechanical.
I spent too much time on the drill page today. Not enough time for the sketch.

Animal Heads

Did a 30 minutes stop at the zoological museum. Did layins for animal heads. Result do not look good but it was a pleasant session.

Box on sphere page for the drill today.

Roller

Briefly sketched a roller at a construction side and finished it up with marker at home.
Looks prettier than my usual sketches but I am not to happy about the value scale. On side of the roller should be lighter.
Two pages of drills.

Zoological Museum

Sketched small thumbnails at the zoological museum. I am happy with the gorilla gesture (bottom left)
For the drills today, two pages of pipes (to train arcs stroke) and the usual box page.

Rubber Donkey

Exhausted today. Only thing I could manage to draw is a yellow rubber donkey. Not very proud of it ;)

Bird gestures

Doing gestures of birds from the Voliere. Not very visually appealing but I think it's a good exercise. They move a lot.
I did this bird thumbnail from memory when I was back at my desk  later while waiting for a phone call.

Congo Objects

Some congo objects from the 19th-20th century. Done at the Rietberg.
Got a bit lost in the rendering. Sad I botched the perspective on the duck table, it was funny object.
On the drill side, page of boxen and a page box/sphere.

Succulent Plants

30 minutes at the Succulent collection. Still unsure about creating a good value scale and using white gel properly.
Sphere studies as drill. I have a tendency to draw circle that are a bit flat. When I draw them they look fine but If I turn the page upside down, they look like potatoes. I hope I can correct this.
