Animal Drawing Week 1

I have started the animal drawing class at CGMA with Jonathan Kuo. This is what I handed over for the week 1 assignment. We had to do 20 traceovers of horse and show the 5 bests. It was about showing the main volumes and indicating the landmarks. It was my first time I worked digitally, just bought a cheap bamboo tablet and downloaded FireAlpaca. Results are quite terrible, it's like being 5 year old again. Very difficult to draw accurately.

The second assignment was more traditional: 20 pages of basic shapes, could only complete 11, here are the 5 best we had to show.

    1. well, each image took almost one hour..I remember back in the days, you were able to draw accurately with a bloody trackpad on your 12' laptop..how did you do it?

  2. I think your work looks very accomplished. I like your sketches better than alot of formal drawings that I see.

  4. That animal class looks awesome. And so do your sketches! Doing lines with a tablet takes some getting used to. You're doing great (much better than I did when I started using digital gear for drawing). Can't wait to see more!

    1. Thanks Dmitri. I will post everything I submit there. So far the lectures has been very interesting. It's a lot about understanding form from functions (for example eye positions in predator/prey). And that's the type of stuff I dig a lot. I am not an artist, I am not into creating art I am more interested in how things work, and drawing, sketching is just a way to do it.

    2. lol, you are an artist now :) Figuring out how things work is what good artists do. It's why there was not much of a difference between an artist and an engineer back in the days of Leonardo. You are carrying that spirit, my friend.
